Smokyy Egg
If you're wandering around Bishop's Stortford and your taste buds are craving something hearty, comforting, and just the right amount of indulgent, you might want to check out Smokyy Egg-the kind of place where the name alone already hints at a sizzling, flavorful experience. Located at 23 Potter St, this eatery manages to blur the lines between café comfort and grillhouse satisfaction, with a quirky menu and a cozy, laid-back vibe that draws in locals, solo diners, and curious foodies alike.
First off, let’s talk atmosphere. Smokyy Egg ticks the box for accessibility with wheelchair-accessible entrances, seating, and toilets, making it an inclusive spot for all kinds of diners. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite, settling in for a long breakfast, or kicking back with a glass of wine after work, the space lends itself perfectly to casual catch-ups and solo foodie missions alike. It’s got that effortlessly welcoming energy you want in a neighborhood restaurant-nothing too polished, just warm and real.
Smokyy Egg doesn’t play around when it comes to meals-they’re popular for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for good reason. The English Breakfast here is a top contender in town. Think crisped bacon, rich sausages, grilled tomatoes, perfectly runny eggs, and toast that actually crunches when you bite into it. Pair it with their great coffee-which honestly holds its own next to any high-end café-and you’ve got a breakfast worth waking up for, even on a lazy Sunday.
Looking for something on the lighter side? The Avocado Toast is a fan-favorite, and it’s easy to see why. Topped with smashed avocado, a poached egg, and a light sprinkle of chili flakes, it’s healthy without being boring, and flavorful without trying too hard.
Now, if you’re rolling in with an appetite, don’t miss their signature Smoky Egg Grill platter. It's a carnivore’s dream come true. The grill sizzles with juicy cuts, often featuring items like pulled pork, grilled chicken, and a mix of seasonal vegetables, all with that signature smoky edge that leaves you craving more. For a British classic, the Fish and Chips here are solid-crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and served with golden chips that actually have taste.
There’s also a Roast Dinner option that holds its own against your mum’s Sunday best. With tender meats, fluffy Yorkshire puddings, and gravy you’ll want to pour on everything, it’s exactly what comfort food should be-simple, satisfying, and soul-hugging.
Smokyy Egg keeps things interesting with extra touches like corn on the cob that’s grilled to smoky perfection, or mussels in a light, fragrant broth for when you're craving something a little different. And don’t overlook the desserts-they’re not just an afterthought here. From indulgent chocolate creations to light fruity endings, the dessert game is strong.
This place isn’t just about food. It also offers a respectable drink selection including wines and alcohol, making it a great casual spot for unwinding. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or lingering over a meal, there’s a rhythm to the service that feels just right-not rushed, not sluggish.
Plus, the friendly staff adds a big bonus to the whole experience. They know the menu well and are always happy to recommend based on your cravings. Want something healthy? Ask. Want something indulgent? They’ll point you to their go-to guilty pleasure.
Whether you’re hunting for a satisfying breakfast before work, a grilled meat feast after a long day, or just a great cup of coffee with dessert on the side, Smokyy Egg in Bishop’s Stortford delivers on all fronts. The mix of comfort, flavor, and casual charm keeps people coming back-and once you’ve been, it’s easy to see why.

I honestly can’t fault this place. The food is like Michelin food. I’ve had breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday roast here. It’s all just so amazing. I’m going to put this out there. Best fish and chips I’ve ever had here. The fish is fresh from the fish counter next door so no frozen rubbish. A must go!!! 5 stars
I have visited several times and each time outshines the last. The food taste, atmosphere and presentation is tops. It's a true delight! Chef is so friendly, it feels like he's your own personal CHEF!
I visited the place two weeks ago and I was choosing between The Bad Boy or the Pulled Pork bun and the staff said, definitely the Bad Boy. It was indeed excellent recommendation. Today I bring my husband to try the bun himself. It hasn’t let him down!
This was the nicest food we have had in ages, had the beef brisket and full English, tasted with every bite. Don’t often write reviews but felt completely to as the food was so good.
